The Bible Read-Along

This fall and through 2024–25 TCBC is offering everyone the opportunity to dispel the mystery and overcome the neglect. Starting September 9, we’ll invite everyone to join a year-long journey of Bible reading.

You can choose to read the entire Bible in a year (about three to five chapters per day), the entire New Testament in a year (about two chapters per day or less), or one hundred key passages in a year (about two chapters a week).

You’ll have support with short instructional videos, “catch-up tools,” and the fellowship of fellow readers making the same journey.

Following Jesus means internalizing the story of Scripture in which Jesus is the center.

Our Read-Along Plans

Whole Bible in a Year- the Bible Project

One Story that Leads to Jesus is a plan designed by BibleProject to inspire you to read through the entire Bible in one year. This plan incorporates over 150 animated videos to engage you in the Bible’s brilliant literary design and flow of thought.

New Testament in a Year - the Bible Project

This Plan will lead you through the New Testament in one year. Each book includes videos specifically designed to enhance your understanding and engagement with Scripture.

Essential 100

The Essential 100 Challenge (E100) helps you get an overview of the Bible… without getting bogged down. The Plan guides you through 50 Old Testament passages and 50 New Testament passages — The Essential 100 — so you can see the big picture of God’s Word, and form a daily Bible reading habit in the process.

FAQs for Bible Read-Along

I’m already engaged in a Bible reading plan that works for me. Should I drop it in favor of one of these?

Only if you want to. If the idea of reading with one of these plans is intriguing, go for it. If you are satisfied with what you’re doing, don’t stop. No pressure, only opportunity.

What if I’m not sure I can keep up? Will I be left out if I fall behind?

Give it a try! For each plan, we will provide “highlights” to help you catch up should you miss a week or two. Don’t let fear of failure keep you from reading. You can’t “fail” Bible Read-Along!

Which translation of the Bible should I read?

Any translation you like or have available. Use the language and translation you’re most comfortable with. (For reference, we use the ESV at TCBC.) If you’d like a recommendation, contact Pastor Jon (jweatherly@tcbc.cc).

I like audio books. Can I listen instead of reading?

Yes! YouVersion, linked on our web page for the program, provides you with links to audio presentations of the Bible. Listening is the way most Christians have experienced the Bible through history.

I don’t like reading the Bible on a screen. What am I supposed to do?

You can download and print a copy of a PDF reading guide for each of the programs, available on the Bible Read-Along web page. Your print Bible will be more than fine for this purpose.

I looked at the E100 plan and it doesn’t have dates. What’s up with that?

This is a “pick your own pace” plan. You can read through it in 100 days by reading daily, twenty weeks by reading Monday to Friday, or fifty weeks by reading twice a week. Feel free to adapt and vary according to your needs and preferences.

I’m not sure I’m up for this. I’ve never been a Bible reader.

We encourage you to give it a shot. It’s not necessary to understand everything you read. The idea is to get started, to establish a habit of Bible reading. You’ll have help and encouragement, and there’s no stigma attached to trying it and then setting it aside.

Will people know I’m doing the Bible Read-Along (or not doing it)?

Only if you tell them. Your report of your participation will be confidential, seen by select church staff only. We only ask you to report your participation so we can benchmark the program’s impact and so we can communicate with you through the year.
